‘First Bible Basics’ Book Is a Beautiful Keepsake for All Ages

As a mother and children’s book author, I jumped at the chance to review First Bible Basics: A Counting Primer, the beautiful new board book by Danielle Hitchen at Catechesis Books.

First Bible Basics book is a beautiful keepsake for all ages

The downright frame-worthy graphic artwork by Jessica Blanchard in First Bible Basics absolutely took my breath away. This counting primer is perfect for babies and toddlers. However, you can use it to introduce or reinforce Biblical concepts at any age.

My almost four-year-old loves the board book’s floral Beatitudes artwork. My five-year-old gravitates towards the Fruits of the Spirit illustration. And my favorite graphic in First Bible Basics is the sequential six days of Creation chart.

The bright and modern yet elegant illustrations draw in children and adults alike. The book’s text provides a foundation for important conversations about God and the Bible. You can tailor these discussions to fit any age, of course.

My new go-to gift for baby showers and first birthday parties

Surprisingly, I laughed while discussing the Trinity with my girls. My oldest daughter immediately pointed to the Cross in the book’s illustration of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. She said, “That’s the important one.” She’s not wrong. Her big picture perspective on the Bible helps me fine-tune my own beliefs. Therefore, my daughter helps me examine my theology as we talk through First Bible Basics.

This unique children’s book is my new go-to gift for baby showers and first birthday parties. It is a beautiful keepsake for believers of all ages.

  1. I love any toddler Bible that the babies can hold, touch, and look at. This teaches them to learn to love the word of God at a young age, instead of putting the Bible on a shelf where it will collect dust.

  2. The Beginners Bible has been my son’s favorite. Its the same Bible my siblings and I started off with as well.

I love the Jesus Storybook Bible! I feel like I get just as much out of it as the kids every time we read a story. It explains the “why” behind all the stories so beautifully!

  4. OH, it looks so pretty! I think my favorite is probably the Jesus Story book Bible, and these adorable little books that you sing with: Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children, and Jesus is with Me. Thy are my kids’ favorites too.
