Dixie Benton Stucky (1953-2013) Obituary

Dixie Dee Benton Stucky died June 22, 2013, a few months before her 60th birthday, at San Marcos Nursing & Rehab after fighting Alzheimer’s disease for more than 10 years. Dixie was born in Houston, Texas October 11, 1953.

As a child “Dee Dee” loved riding her horses and helping her father work cattle at her grandparents’ ranch near Sealy, Texas. She was a twirler and played clarinet in the Sealy High School Marching Band, attended Sealy Church of Christ and enjoyed swimming, writing, and art.

Education

Dixie attended Texas A&M University where she was active in Aggies for Christ at A&M Church of Christ and earned her B.A. in English in 1976. Soon after, she met her husband, Scott Stucky, and they married on the A&M campus December 17, 1977. She received her M. Ed. in Educational Administration in 1978.

Career and memberships

Passionate about education and children, Dixie worked in Round Rock I.S.D. as an English teacher and public relations officer and later in Dripping Springs I.S.D. as a substitute teacher. A sixth generation Texan, she is a descendant of Martin Allen, who came to Texas in 1821 with Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred.” Dixie was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Descendants of Austin’s Old Three Hundred and a student of genealogy and history.

Faith

Above all, she loved God and studying His Word and passed her faith on to her children. Dixie attended various churches of Christ throughout her life, including Brentwood Oaks, University Avenue, and Western Hills in Austin.

Survivors of Dixie Benton Stucky

She is survived by her husband, Scott Stucky of Austin, her daughter, Lauren Flake and husband Travis of Buda, her son, Scott Russell Stucky of Austin, her granddaughter, Samantha Flake of Buda, her parents, Orville and Myrle Benton of Sealy, her aunts, and many cousins and friends. The family wishes to express its gratitude to San Marcos Nursing & Rehab, Odyssey Hospice and The Gathering respite program at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church for their care and support in the final years of Dixie’s life.

Services for Dixie Benton Stucky

Visitation will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Western Hills Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Western Hills Church of Christ, 6211 Parkwood Dr., Austin, TX 78735. A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. at Sealy Cemetery, 768 4th St., Sealy, Texas 77474.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gathering at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, 7127 Bee Caves Rd, Austin, TX 78746.
