Is Jesus Part of Your Story, or Are You Part of His?

I started blogging in 2009.

Back then, I wrote about things like my mother’s decline through early onset Alzheimer’s and my fear of developing the disease. I didn’t worry too much about things like content or site layout or page views because my only readers were people close to me.

Is Jesus part of your story, or are you part of His?

Yet my blog quickly became a place to share the transformation that God was bringing about in my heart in the midst of my struggles. And putting those words on paper–or on screen, if you will–became a healing balm for my soul and a way to connect with and minister to others who were hurting.

As my platform continued to grow, however, I began to agonize over every blog post, every headline score, and every social media share.

I constantly asked myself: Is this good enough? Am I good enough? Is what I have to share–as an author, artist, and advocate–good enough? Every decision I made about what, how, and when to share what God was doing in my life was now motivated by fear of failure and rejection.

  1. Hi Lauren,
I am not sure what lead my path to your blog but I am so excited to share my idea with you. My mom has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s after suffering with dementia for a few years. Of course I have not been sleeping much and stumbled across teespring.com tonight. I designed a t-shirt to help raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association tonight and then became confused and decided that I had better get help understanding the aspects of a campaign. Lol. Then I seen your success story on the site. Your amazing! I could never handle all the media attention. What a wonderful cause and tribute to your mom. I was surprised to see that you also have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease with your mom having it. Also, I am so happy to find an outlet that is Christian based to talk about this horrible disease with my fellow Christians. Thank you for this.
Anyways, my t-shirt design is simple, attention grabbing, and gets the point across. I pray that it is not to harsh. I would love nothing more than for you to run with the campaign if you decide you like the idea. The t-shirt says this:
    Remember Me…
    Find a Cure
    for Alzheimer’s
    So They Can.
Thank you so much for your time. Sincerely, Carey Schaeffer – Brooklyn Michigan
