7 Powerful Songs that Will Comfort People in Their Grief and Loss

Creating a playlist of songs that will comfort people in their grief for my Where Did My Sweet Grandma Go? launch party really calmed my anxious heart.

Music soothed my soul after losing my mother to early onset Alzheimer’s disease, and I enjoyed finding therapeutic, uplifting music that speaks of Heaven, God’s creation and eternal love to accompany my children’s book about legacy and hope.

Here are seven of my favorite songs of comfort from the list.

7 powerful songs that will comfort people in their grief

Coldplay – Paradise

Despite its lighthearted music video about an elephant trying to get to Africa, Coldplay’s Paradise has a deep message about loneliness, pain and yearning for Home

“When she was just a girl, she expected the world. But it flew away from her reach so she ran away in her sleep and dreamed of para-para-paradise.”

Lauren Daigle – Trust in You

Lauren Daigle’s Trust in You has been my anthem lately, as I struggle with anxiety and self doubt. I love it because it reminds me that God is good, all the time.

“When You don’t move the mountains I’m needing You to move, when You don’t part the waters I wish I could walk through, when You don’t give the answers as I cry out to You, I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You.”

Miranda Lambert – Sweet By and By

Texas girl Miranda Lambert’s Sweet By and By speaks to my Southern, momma-missing heart.

“Mama, I have not forgotten lessons learned under the light of a southern, starry sky. Family’s the light that guides us, blessed be the ties that bind us. Sweet by and by, sweet by and by.”

Kari Jobe – I Am Not Alone

Kari Jobe’s I Am Not Alone is one of my favorite worship songs. I love its message that we are never alone in our pain and grief.

“I am not alone. You will go before me. You will never leave me.”

Tim McGraw – Humble and Kind

Tim McGraw’s Humble and Kind is absolutely beautiful. It reminds me that, ultimately, we are only in control of how we treat other people.

“I know you got mountains to climb but always stay humble and kind. When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you, when the work you put in is realized, let yourself feel the pride but always stay humble and kind.”

Dean Lewis – How Do I Say Goodbye

Kacey Musgraves – Rainbow
