5 Favorite Charities for National Adoption Month
‘Tis (the start of) the season for giving, and November is National Adoption Month.
Today, I’m linking up with my For the Love sisters to share a few of my favorite adoption-minded charities, in central Texas and beyond.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. – James 1:27 ESV
Please consider supporting these amazing organizations when you are planning your donations this holiday season.
5 favorite charities for National Adoption Month
BraveLove
Based in Dallas, Texas, BraveLove seeks to empower women everywhere to choose adoption:
Our mission is to change the perception of adoption through honest, informative, and hopeful communication that conveys the heroism and bravery a birth mother displays when she places her child with a loving family through adoption.
Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption
Wendy’s is my favorite fast food chain for more reasons than just their natural cut fries and inexpensive salads.
Their Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption raises awareness about waiting children, awards grants to adoption organizations and provides free resources for prospective and adoptive parents:
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is driven by a single goal: finding a loving family for every child waiting in foster care to get adopted. We are America’s only national nonprofit charity dedicated solely to finding permanent homes for the more than 100,000 children in foster care.
Foster Angels of Central Texas
Foster Angels of Central Texas strives to meet the immediate needs of Austin-area foster children:
We provide funds for clothing, education, food, medical needs and events in the children’s lives which build self-esteem and community. For example, we provide funds for a child to have a birthday party or to purchase sports equipment or to buy a prom dress or to attend summer camp. These children wholly depend on agency resources for their survival, and when those means are no longer available, they can turn to us.
Help One Now
I actually learned about this North Carolina-based nonprofit through my involvement in the For the Love launch team.
Help One Now works to meet the big picture, long-term needs of impoverished communities in Haiti and Africa:
Help One Now is a catalytic tribe committed to empowering and resourcing high-capacity local leaders who care for orphans and vulnerable children in order to transform communities and break the cycle of extreme poverty.
South Austin Pregnancy Resource Center
This central Texas organization is especially near and dear to my heart.
I have been honored to volunteer with South Austin Pregnancy Resource Center for the last couple of years, managing their social media and taking part in fundraising efforts for their recent facility expansion (see last year’s ribbon cutting above).
Founded in 2009, South Austin PRC is a safe refuge for women in crisis pregnancies, providing free and confidential pregnancy tests, sonograms, counseling and baby and maternity supplies:
The purpose of South Austin Pregnancy Resource Center is to provide education, love and support to women in our community as they make important pregnancy decisions.
