Lauren Flake releases second book Where Did My Sweet Grandpa Go?: A Preschooler’s Guide to Losing a Loved One.
Lauren Flake, the Buda woman who helped to raise over $145,000 for Hays County flood recovery with sales of her “Texas Strong” t-shirts in 2015, has published her second children’s book for grieving families entitled, Where Did My Sweet Grandpa Go?: A Preschooler’s Guide to Losing a Loved One.
Author Lauren Flake
Written initially as a poem to help her young daughters understand the loss of Flake’s mom, Dixie Benton Stucky, in 2013, the new book and its 2016 predecessor, Where Did My Sweet Grandma Go?, gently lead little ones and their parents into meaningful conversations about death, grief, and eternal love. Questions, activities, Bible passages and resources in the included Parents’ Guide reinforce the books’ comforting message of legacy and hope.
Flake, who also writes a blog entitled Love of Dixie, not only wrote the books but illustrated the pages as well, that is with a little help from her mom. Many of the illustrations in the books are replicas of artwork done by Stucky before she lost her battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.
“Losing my maternal grandfather immediately following the release of Sweet Grandma inspired me to create a second version of the book,” said Flake. “My prayer is that both of these books would bring healing to hurting and confused preschoolers and the adults who care for them.”
Where Did My Sweet Grandma Go?
Flake’s first children’s book, Where Did My Sweet Grandma Go?: A Preschooler’s Guide to Losing a Loved One, was recently named a Mom’s Choice Awards® Gold Recipient and a 2017 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Finalist.
